Description

The Marmonix MFF-2203 gas mass flow meter is a flanged thermal meter that covers 0.5–100 Nm/s on DN10–DN2000 pipe for gases except acetylene, reading mass or standard-volume flow by constant-differential-temperature thermal dispersion without temperature or pressure compensation in principle. Pipe accuracy is ±1% of reading (insertion ±2.5%), with pulse and 4–20 mA output plus RS485 or HART on an IP65 transmitter. Browse all Marmonix flow meters, or see the MTF-4200 insertion thermal mass flow meter when a hot-tap probe suits a large duct better than a flanged body.

Flanged construction mass flow measurement for gas MFF-2203

Thermal gas mass flow meter MFF-2203 is designed on the basis of thermal dispersion, and adopts method of constant differential temperature to measuring gas flow. It has advantages of small size, easy installation, high reliability and high accuracy, etc.
The meter contains two platinum resistance temperature sensors. The thermal principle operates by monitoring the cooling effect of a gas stream as it passes over a heated sensor. Gas flowing through the sensing section passes over two sensors one of which is used conventionally as a temperature sensor, whilst the other is used as a heater. The temperature sensor monitors the actual process values whilst the heater is maintained at a constant differential temperature above this by varying the power consumed by the sensor. The greater the gas velocity, the greater the cooling effect and power required to maintain the differential temperature. The measured heater power is therefore a measure of the gas mass flow rate.

Flanged construction mass flow measurement for gas MFF-2203 Features

The MFF-2203 offers:

  • Measuring the mass flow or volume flow of gas
  • Do not need to do temperature and pressure compensation in principle with accurate measurement and easy operation
  • Wide range: 0.5Nm/s~100Nm/s for gas. The meter also can be used for gas leak detection
  • Good vibration resistance and long service life. No moving parts and pressure sensor in transducer, no vibration influence on the measurement accuracy.
  • Easy installation and maintenance. If the conditions on site are permissible, the meter can achieve a hot-tapped installation and maintenance. (Special order of custom-made)
  • Digital design, high accuracy and stability
  • Configuring with RS485 or HART interface to realize factory automation and integration

How thermal mass flow meters are used on industrial gas lines

Plants that burn, invoice or leak-check process gas need a mass-flow figure that stays meaningful when line pressure and temperature change, without adding separate transmitters for compensation.

A thermal-dispersion mass flow meter places two resistance-temperature sensors in the gas stream: one measures gas temperature and the other is held at a constant temperature difference by varying heater power. The power needed tracks mass flow, so the meter reports mass or standard-volume flow directly. Flanged in-line bodies suit DN10–DN2000 runs; insertion and hot-tap styles cover larger ducts. ASME MFC-21.2 covers selection and installation of this meter class for industrial gas service.

Operators typically mount the sensor in a straight run of compressed air, nitrogen, natural gas or similar utility gas, wire the 4–20 mA or digital output into the control system, and trend consumption or detect leaks shift by shift without cutting the line for a full-bore spool.

Questions about the MFF-2203 thermal mass flow meter

Which gases can the MFF-2203 measure?

The MFF-2203 measures gas mass or standard-volume flow for gases except acetylene, over a published velocity window of 0.5–100 Nm/s at 20 ℃ and 101.33 kPa. Sensor housings are SS304 or SS316 for carbon-steel or stainless pipe.

Does the MFF-2203 need separate temperature and pressure compensation?

The MFF-2203 uses constant-differential-temperature thermal dispersion, so in principle it does not need separate temperature and pressure compensation to report mass flow. Pipe accuracy is published as ±1% of reading; insertion accuracy as ±2.5% of reading.

MFF-2203 flanged or MTF-4200 insertion: which should I choose?

Choose the flanged MFF-2203 when you can install a DN10–DN2000 in-line body at up to 4.0 MPa pipe pressure, and the MTF-4200 insertion style when a DN80–DN4000 duct needs a hot-tap or standard insertion probe at up to 2.5 MPa. Ask for a quote with your gas, pipe size and pressure.
