Marmonix MIT-700 Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer Gun
Infrared thermometer gun for surfaces from −50 to 750 °C, ±1.5 °C or ±1.5% from 0 °C upward. It has a 12:1 optic with laser aiming, adjustable emissivity (0.10–1.00), 500 ms response, MAX/MIN/DIF/AVG, high/low alarms and 30-reading memory. Runs about 22 h on a 9 V battery and comes with a 2-year warranty.
The Marmonix MIT-700 infrared thermometer is a pistol-grip IR temperature gun for surfaces from −50 to 750 °C (−58 to 1382 °F). Point the laser, pull the trigger and you have a reading in half a second, without touching a hot pipe, a live panel or a running motor. With adjustable emissivity, a 12:1 optic, alarms and a 30-reading memory, it is built for HVAC and district-cooling technicians, maintenance teams, electricians and QA staff in the UAE and GCC who need one gun for both cold and very hot surfaces. Why choose the MIT-700
- Wide range in one tool: from chilled-water lines and freezers at −50 °C to exhaust manifolds and ovens at 750 °C.
- Accurate on real materials: emissivity adjustable from 0.10 to 1.00 (0.95 preset) to correct for painted, oxidised or plastic surfaces.
- Safe standoff: 12:1 distance-to-spot ratio with a laser pointer, so you measure from a safe distance.
- Fast scanning: 500 ms response with live MAX, MIN, DIF and AVG to find hot spots quickly.
- Alarms and memory: high and low alarms with beeper, plus 30 stored readings for a round of checks.
- Long battery life: about 22 h on a 9 V battery with the laser off, 12 h with it on. 2-year warranty.
Where the MIT-700 is used
- HVAC and district cooling: supply and return temperatures, coils, compressors and condenser fins.
- Electrical maintenance: first-pass screening of panel covers, breakers, cable lugs and transformer bodies from a safe distance.
- Mechanical and plant rounds: bearings, motors, pumps, gearboxes and steam traps.
- Process and manufacturing: moulds, dryers, ovens, pipework and insulation checks up to 750 °C.
- Automotive and fleet workshops: exhausts, brakes, radiators and engine blocks.

How to measure accurately with an infrared thermometer
- Let the MIT-700 reach room temperature for about 30 minutes if you bring it from a cold car or an air-conditioned room into the heat.
- Set emissivity for the surface: 0.95 for most painted, rubber, plastic and oxidised surfaces; for shiny metal, apply tape or matt paint and measure that.
- Check the spot size: at 12:1, keep the target at least twice the size of the spot (for a 50 mm spot, stand within about 600 mm).
- Aim with the laser and pull the trigger; to find a hot spot, start outside the area and sweep slowly across it while watching MAX.
- Release the trigger to hold the reading, and save it to memory if you are logging a round.
- Keep the lens clean with compressed air or a damp cotton swab; never use solvents on the lens.
A spot thermometer tells you the temperature of one point. To see a whole panel, roof or pipe run at once, use a thermal imaging camera; our thermal imaging and industrial inspection guide explains when each tool fits, and the 2026 thermal camera buyer’s guide compares models.

MIT-700 infrared thermometer FAQ
What is the temperature range of the MIT-700 infrared thermometer?
It measures surface temperature from −50 to 750 °C (−58 to 1382 °F), with ±1.5 °C or ±1.5% accuracy from 0 to 750 °C and ±3 °C below 0 °C.
What does the 12:1 distance-to-spot ratio mean?
The measured spot grows with distance: about 25 mm across at 300 mm, 50 mm at 600 mm and 100 mm at 1.2 m. For an accurate reading the target should be at least twice as large as the spot, so move closer to small objects.
Why does emissivity matter, and how do I set it on the MIT-700?
Shiny surfaces emit less infrared than dull ones, so they read low. The MIT-700 is preset to 0.95, which suits most painted, oxidised and organic surfaces, and you can adjust it from 0.10 to 1.00 in the EMS menu. On polished metal, stick on tape or matt black paint, let it reach the surface temperature and measure that instead.
Can the MIT-700 measure through glass or steam?
No. Infrared thermometers read the first surface they see, so through glass or plastic you will get the temperature of the glass. Steam, dust and smoke can also block the optics and lower the reading.
Can the MIT-700 save readings?
Yes. It stores up to 30 readings that you can recall later, and shows MAX, MIN, DIF and AVG during a scan. High and low alarms beep when a surface goes past your limits.
MIT-700 or MIT 900: which should I buy?
Both have a 12:1 optic and adjustable emissivity. The MIT-700 reads up to 750 °C, which covers HVAC, electrical, mechanical and most process work. Choose the MIT 900 if you regularly measure furnace shells, kilns or molten metal up to 950 °C.
Is the MIT-700 suitable for checking body temperature?
No. It is an industrial surface thermometer, not a medical device. Use a clinical thermometer for people.
