Description

The Marmonix MTS-B-A7 Shore A test blocks (also written MTS-B A7 or MTSBA7) are seven rubber reference pieces at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80 Shore A, each stated to ±1 Shore A. Pressing a durometer onto them shows, in seconds, whether it still reads true from very soft rubber up to firm elastomers. The set works with any standard Shore A durometer regardless of brand, is used between 0 and +40 °C, and should be stored dry at room temperature (part number 7603811). Browse the Marmonix hardness testers, or pair the blocks with the MDS-100A digital Shore A durometer.

The MarMonix MTS-B-A7 Shore A Test Block Set is a premium reference kit designed specifically for the calibration and verification of Shore A durometers. Whether you are conducting incoming inspections, routine quality control, or training new technicians, this set provides a reliable standard to ensure your hardness measurements are accurate.

This complete set includes 7 individual test blocks ranging from 20 to 80 Shore A, offering a broad spectrum of hardness levels to verify linearity across your device’s range. Manufactured from high-quality rubber compounds with a smooth, uniform surface finish, these blocks are essential tools for anyone working with soft rubbers, elastomers, and flexible materials.

Case study: a start-of-shift durometer check on a seal production line

A moulding line makes rubber seals to a hardness specification, and each shift relies on the same handheld Shore A durometer to pass or reject parts. If the gauge has drifted, good seals get scrapped or soft ones get shipped, and nobody notices until a customer complaint.

A short check before production starts:

  • Bracket the specification: test the blocks just below, at and above the hardness the parts must meet, not only the middle of the scale.
  • Same technique every time: block flat on a hard surface, durometer held square, the same press and the same reading time, since rubber readings fall the longer the indentor stays in.
  • Let things settle: keep the blocks and the durometer in the test room long enough to reach its temperature, because rubber hardness changes with temperature.
  • Write it down: log the block values, the readings, the date and the operator.

If any block reads outside the tolerance the lab has set, the durometer comes off the line until it has been properly verified. A check on blocks shows that something is wrong; it does not adjust the instrument.

MTS-B-A7 test blocks: quick answers

How many blocks are in the MTS-B-A7 set?

Seven, at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80 Shore A, each with a stated accuracy of ±1 Shore A.

Do the MTS-B-A7 blocks replace a full durometer verification?

No. They are a quick reference check between formal verifications. They show whether a Shore A durometer has drifted but do not adjust it.

What conditions do the MTS-B-A7 blocks need?

Use them between 0 and +40 °C and store them dry at room temperature, as the datasheet specifies. Let them reach the test-room temperature before a check.
