Marmonix MSF-2202 (MSF2202 / MSF 2202) Swirl Steam Flow Meter for Steam, Gas and Liquid
The Marmonix MSF-2202 is an industrial swirl flow meter for steam and gas measurement. It supports boiler, process-line, and energy-monitoring workflows.
The Marmonix MSF-2202 steam flow meter (also typed MSF2202 or MSF 2202) measures steam, gas and liquid with 1.0% accuracy in its flanged form and 1.5% as an insertion meter, on lines from DN15 up to DN2000 depending on the connection. It is built around a forged SS304 body (SS316 optional), a high-temperature sensor and a digital board designed against vibration and interference, and it can run from 12–24 VDC or its own 3.6 V battery, showing flow on a low-power LCD. Compare other Marmonix flow meters, including the MVF-2800 steam vortex meter.
Key figures from the MSF-2202 datasheet:
- Velocity band: steam 5.0–70.0 m/s, gas 4.0–60.0 m/s, liquid 0.4–7.0 m/s.
- Connections: flange or wafer DN15–DN300, thread or sanitary DN15–DN100, insertion DN80–DN2000.
- Medium temperature: versions up to +200 °C, +280 °C and +350 °C.
- Pressure: 1.6, 2.5, 4.0 or 6.4 MPa, other ratings on request.
- Turndown: 1:10 on gas (air reference), 1:15 on liquid.
- Outputs: 2–3000 Hz pulse and isolated two-wire 4–20 mA.
- Losses and limits: pressure-loss coefficient Cd ≤ 2.6, pipe vibration up to 0.2 g, ambient humidity up to 85% RH.
Marmonix MSF-2202 Industrial Steam Flowmeter
The Marmonix MSF-2202 is a swirl flow meter for monitoring steam and gas flow in industrial systems. Flow information helps operators understand process demand, compare operating conditions, and support energy-management decisions. The instrument is intended for fixed measurement points such as boiler rooms, process lines, and utility distribution systems where dependable monitoring contributes to safer and more efficient operation.
Use the MSF-2202 as part of a planned measurement installation. Confirm the pipework, fluid conditions, pressure, temperature, straight-run requirements, and other site factors against the product documentation and the applicable engineering standard. A well-defined installation and commissioning record makes later readings easier to interpret and compare.
Typical application
For example, a facilities engineer can use the MSF-2202 on a steam line to compare demand during operating shifts and identify opportunities for energy review.
The MSF-2202 supports routine process monitoring, boiler performance checks, and utility reporting. Record readings alongside production or operating context so unusual changes can be investigated rather than viewed in isolation. Schedule inspection and maintenance according to the instrument instructions and the conditions of the installation.

Keep measurement points accessible, label the instrument clearly, and train operators on the normal range for the process. These simple practices help turn flow readings into useful operational information.
Case study: why a steam reading needs pressure and temperature
A swirl or vortex meter senses velocity, so its basic result is a volume. Boiler and energy reports, however, are written in kilograms or tonnes of steam, and the mass in each cubic metre changes with the line conditions. The MSF-2202 datasheet carries a superheated-steam density table that shows how large that change is.
Values read from that table:
- 1.0 MPa absolute, 250 °C: 4.30 kg/m³.
- 0.5 MPa absolute, 250 °C: 2.11 kg/m³, about half the mass per cubic metre at the same temperature.
- 1.0 MPa absolute, 400 °C: 3.26 kg/m³, so extra superheat also lowers the mass in each cubic metre.
If header pressure drifts between shifts, an uncompensated volume total shifts the mass figure with it. That is why the MSF-2202 model code offers temperature compensation, pressure compensation and combined temperature-pressure compensation, as well as a 350 °C high-temperature version. Before ordering, the line pressure and temperature range are compared with the table, and the compensation option is chosen to match how the steam figure will be used.
MSF-2202 steam flow meter: buyer questions
What steam velocity does the MSF-2202 need?
Between 5.0 and 70.0 m/s for steam, according to the datasheet. Gas needs 4.0–60.0 m/s and liquid 0.4–7.0 m/s.
How accurate is the MSF-2202?
1.0% with a flanged body and 1.5% in the insertion version. Turndown is 1:10 for gas with air as the reference and 1:15 for liquid.
Can the MSF-2202 work without mains power?
Yes. It is listed for 12–24 VDC or a 3.6 V battery, with a low-power LCD. Outputs are a 2–3000 Hz pulse and isolated two-wire 4–20 mA.
